Twelve days ago on Fourth Avenue in downtown Anchorage, the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race began amid crowds, fanfare and great expectations. Young or old, short or tall, rookie or seasoned veteran, there are few events better than the Iditarod at killing expectations, aspirations and, most of all, dreams.
63-year-old local hero finishes in top 20
Shivering patiently beneath the burled arch hauled onto Front Street each March to mark the finish of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, the Louis Nelson fan club awaited its hero Wednesday afternoon.
